Valentine’s Tintype Pop-up: February 14th, 2026

Currently sold out: more appointments may be added soon. If so, I will announce on Instagram.

In the late 20th century, many people only had one or two photographs made of them during their lifetimes. Unsurprisingly, most of these photographs were made in commemoration of love (and sometimes photos of dead people, but mostly, love).

Anymore, many of us are fatigued by the process and discomfort of having professional photographs made, and many are seeking a truly meaningful way to remember the sweetness in our lives. A tintype photograph is the perfect way to indulge in a celebration of the love you’ve fostered in your life!

Bring your partner, your mom, your baby, your dog, or just your amazing self to this tintype popup and I’ll make you the heirloom valentine that will be meaningful to you for your entire life.

On Saturday February 14, I will be popping up in the beautiful upstairs event space at Urbanite, located at 1005 SE Grand Ave in Portland, Oregon.

Urbanite will be hosting lots of fun stuff for Valentines, including a vintage wardrobing event with Lanyap Vintage and Colleen Harrington (perfect to pick up something to wear for your portrait!) There will also be a studio ceramics class with Esh Ceramics, a fine art gallery show, and a Sofar Sounds concert in the event loft! Be sure to check out Urbanite’s instagram for details.

Tintype is a photographic process invented in the 1860’s which involves the photographer (that’s me, Ashley!) coating an aluminum plate in chemicals, sensitizing that plate to light in a silver bath, and then photographing the subject with that still-wet plate before it dries. I then take the plate back into my little portable darkroom and process the image on the spot! This is the most special way to have your photograph made, and the experience of observing a historical process is part of the fun. And, your tintype will last 200-300 years… a true heirloom for your family.

Families of two adults and children can be accommodated, as long as you can all sit close together! Due to the extremely shallow depth of field, the process often looks better and sharper the closer in we can frame the photo. If you have a large family, consider booking multiple appointments and splitting up into smaller groups. You may bring a pet to be photographed with you as long as you are able to hold them.

Pricing below includes one 5x7 inch tintype, but you’re welcome to choose to “upgrade” your tintype to the 8x10 inch size by selecting the upgrade option. Your appointment will last about 20-25 minutes! If you would like to upgrade to an 8x10 inch tintype, you may either pay up front by selecting the “add-ons” below, or plan to upgrade the day of your appointment with cash, venmo or paypal.

Please note: you will be able to watch the tintype develop and take photos, but you won’t take your tintype home the day of the pop-up. It will need to wash and be scanned (a scan is included in the cost!) and varnished. If you would prefer to pick your tintype up when it’s ready, it usually takes 1-2 weeks. If you’d like me to mail it, be sure to add on shipping below when you choose your appointment time. Shipping is not included in the initial cost.

Please also note: due to limited appointments, my ability to reschedule appointments becomes limited as the spots fill. Please be sure you can make it to the appointment you choose, as I can’t offer rescheduling options for future popup dates.
